Rainweater Harvesting
Rainwater is collected from roofs via guttering and stored in an under ground tank where it is filtered and stored. This water is then supplied for “non-potable” purposes via electric pump.
Water supplied by utility companies through the mains is known as “potable” (Drinking Water). Around 50% of a household’s water consumption doesn’t require potable water.
Examples of “non-potable” uses.
• Toilet Flushing
• Washing machines
• Car washing
• Garden Irrigation
Installing a rainwater harvesting system is straightforward when undertaken at the new build stage or when a property is being refurbished. This allows guttering and drainage pipes to meet at a single point before entering the tank. This also allows easier installation of separate internal plumbing for potable and non-potable pipe work.
Rain water harvesting systems are not subject to hosepipe bans or water restrictions, ideal for keen gardeners.
